The Evening Hero is being met with some glowing reviews. The book is about a Korean immigrant Dr. Yungman Kwak and his disillusionment with the American Dream. The Star-Tribune calls the Evening Hero a ‘Sweeping Novel’ and states that Lee follows her protagonist with ‘comic flair.’
Dr. Yungman Kwak is at one time at the top of his game, as a leading Obstetrician, but when the hospital he works at closed, his world comes crashing down. Yungman not only is faced with the reality of his current struggles but can suddenly see more clearly, the challenges of the past. Yungman goes back deeper in his personal and family history to his life in North Korea before the war.
The Star-Tribune also states that Lee writes with “ heart, humor and authentic detail” and “shows how the most outwardly unassuming people can harbor epic histories.”
The Evening Hero is featured on Oprah Daily which has an excerpt of the book for readers exclusively on the site. Oprah Daily also hails Lee’s writing as infusing “humor and insight” in the way that she writes about Dr. Kwak’s personal revelations. Describing the excerpt that is featured, in which Dr. Kwak and his wife visit the home of a church-going doctor couple, in which Dr. Kwak becomes increasingly agitated during the visit, Oprah Daily says, “Lee employs humor and the absurd while probing past events, exploring heavy topics while grounding the reader in the moment.”
The Evening Hero is published by Simon and Schuster and is available for purchase through Amazon, your local bookshop, and more.
